Control: Hard, Rhythmic Electronics V-MAG: VISUAL.MEDIA.ASSAULT.GROUP A-MAG: AUDIO.MEDIA.ASSAULT.GROUP Portion Control consists of three members: John Whybrew, Ian Sharp and Dean Piavani, who all conribute equally to the concept of Portion Control "ACTIVE". ACTIVE being the term used for all A.M.A.G./V.M.A.G. operations and for any live performances that we might perform. A London based trio, Portion Control have been together since 1980. I first heard them through their tracks on various compilation cassettes and have since obtained most of their 'In Phaze' material. "Hard rhythmic elctronics" is probably the best description of their music. It is experimental but in no way extreme. If any of the 'Wild Planet' bands are going to achieve wider success in the near future then I think that Portion Control could easily be one of them. 'Terror leads to better dubs', their track on 'Zink Zamler' is a strong, rhytmic, danceable track that wouldn't seem out of place in Top 30. Honest! Whilst listening to Portion Control's music. Cabaret Voltaire occassionally come to mind. I don't mean to label them, and they are most certainly not ripping them off in any way, but there does seem to be a similar feel. As CV have developed over the years at their own speed I can imagine Portion Control doing the same, there seems to be so much scope whithin their music to develop it and push out further... Having played in Europe last year (Holland, Belgium and Germany) there are plans for more dates there this summer, along with more (and better) gigs in this country. Keen to do more work with video they are at present working on one of their own, for release soon. In the meantime they are featured, along with Test Dept, Cris & Cosey, Lustmord and others on a Twin Vision compilation. * * * * * * * * * * * * * Discography: 'With
